WRTI seeks a Jazz Host and Producer who shares our mission to champion music as a vital cultural resource. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Jazz music and possess the desire to inspire, serve, and engage with a diverse audience of listeners as well as the arts and culture community. They will also be music curious, seeking Jazz music connections with other genres, history, and the world at large.
This is an excellent major market opportunity to join WRTIs Jazz music team to produce and deliver engaging programming and content across multiple platforms designed to serve a new generation of Jazz music lovers everywhere, more deeply connect with WRTIs loyal music community, and celebrate the rich diversity of voices and experiences in Jazz music.
Reporting to the Director of Jazz Music the Part-Time Jazz Music Host is responsible for executing the essential functions of on-air host and producer for scheduled shifts/hours as needed. Presents and creates on-air and digital content supporting WRTIs music strategy, in collaboration with and direction from the Associate General Manager for Content and Programming, which is aligned to WRTIs mission to champion music as a vital cultural resource and DEI agenda to celebrate and cultivate diverse voices. Produces other broadcast content for underwriting, fundraising, and promotions as necessary. Participates in on-air fundraising, responds to emails, calls and correspondence from listeners, makes occasional station appearances for fundraising and promotions, and assists in music programming and scheduling as necessary.
**Essential Functions of Position**
Host and produce jazz music programs as needed
Conduct recorded and live interviews with a spectrum of creatives and others who inform our understanding and appreciation of the arts
Contribute digital content for the web, newsletters, blogs, and social media
Participate as a team member on initiatives to champion, current and desired, diversity within Jazz music
Produce programs or features as necessary to strengthen WRTIs public service and mission
Embrace on-air fundraising as an ongoing opportunity to more deeply connect listeners to their role in making our collective mission and vision a reality
Produces other on-air announcements and material as necessary for sponsorship, member drives, and promotional needs
Assists in music programming and scheduling as necessary
Make occasional public appearances as a host and member of the music community
Respond to listener questions and comments
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, humanities, or related fields desired. At least five years on-air radio experience including music selection, scripting continuity breaks and announcing classical music. An equivalent combination of Jazz music education, performance and broadcast experience may be considered.
**Required skills and abilities:**
* A relaxed and engaging on-air presence
*Strong knowledge of Jazz music periods, composers, major works, and artists
*Experience with radio automation, playback, and other studio equipment (Wide Orbit preferred)
*Experience with audio editing software (Adobe Audition preferred)
*Experience with music scheduling software (Music Master preferred)
*Experience conducting interviews and producing segments for broadcast
*Strong writing skills
*Experience in on-air fundraising
*Experience hosting live remotes
*Strong team player committed to working with department and station colleagues to achieve collective goals
*Ability to work assigned part time-hours/shift as needed
Preferred:
*Social media experience
*Experience producing multimedia content
*Experience producing digital content for multiple platforms
*Familiarity and comfort with foreign languages (especially Spanish Portuguese, French and German)
